ÖBB Blows

I’m finally home and it’s already 22:00 (that’s 10pm for people without a proper clock ;)), and why am I so late home? Well because certain train network collapsed because of heavy winds. And it was really my luck that the first train that got stopped just as it was to leave Vienna was the train that I was on.

It has happened before of course, so no big deal I think to myself and get of the train as I’m told and decide to wait for them to fix things and for the trains to resume. Big mistake. Two hours later, still no news, and all that ÖBB(the train company) tells us is that all trains going in my direction are suspended.

Luckily for me, a family friend came to pick me up. As we arrived at the train station where I usually got off, I noticed that the parking lot was still filled with cars, and that there were still lots of bikes at the station. Which could mean only that a lot of people were still stuck in Vienna. Poor people, it’s already 22:30 and they are probably still standing there and waiting, hopefully they’ll be able to get home soon.

I really wonder what they built that rail infrastructure in Austria with. Pretty much 99% of the time it’s very reliable, but when crap does hit the fan, it’s not a fan but a turbine and it’s not just any crap, but dinosaur crap.

Ouch, at least the train wasn’t moving on the tracks when the heavy wind hit, now that would have been dinosaur crap hitting a turbine.

I don’t know about that really. I had my macbook with me, so I could have gotten quite a bit of work done while sitting in the train. Unlike when I was standing in the train station. But yeah, that would have sucked as well.
