Apparently there’s a game/game engine out there for 2D fighting type of games (think Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc.). While in itself that may not be anything that new or strange, as there are plenty of different game engines floating around. What makes MUGEN different though is that its community has created hundreds and hundreds of custom fighters for it. Just to show you how it looks like watch this video.
Yes, there are better videos of MUGEN Homer, and MUGEN Peter, but this one is probably the best Homer VS Griffin video. I’m actually quite impressed with it, and have been trying to get my hands on it for a little while now as well, but it’s proving to be hard to get all the stuff that you need, Mugen or WinMugen, and then there’s the character pack. It’s a little confusing, so once/if I figure out, I’ll post a guide on how to get it all working.

Yeah, I tried to get MUGEN but failed miserably at it. It looks pretty awesome.
