More Popomundo Art

Yeah, I’m still playing and quite active in Popomundo. I suppose the older/better your character gets the more you get motivated to play. Or maybe it’s a matter of wanting to try out everything that one can do in the game. Whatever the case might be, that’s not the topic of this post.

Recently I’ve been doing some more Popomundo art work, and yeah I know these aren’t exactly super hot pieces of design, or in some cases design at all. But I still like doing the odd piece every now and then. It makes for a great break from usual designing work. Not to mention the fact that these aren’t paid designs, so people (including myself) get what they paid for.

I know that I haven’t update in a while, and there probably is a good reason for it as well. I’m working on a new version of Rihards Online, but seeing that it’s not a top priority project at the moment, it’s taking quite a bit of time.

So until it’s done and launched, I’ll be posting odd bits and pieces that come to mind. So let’s start then. A new version of foobar 2000 is out. What is foobar? Only the best music player that there is. Forget winamp and iTunes, both are rubbish (unless for some reason you are locked into using one of those, then I pity you).

The new version is actually pretty cool, lots of new changes, including my favourite, a new user interface. And it’s not just any new user interface, it’s a fully editable user interface. What does that mean? Well it means that you can delete everything from the player user interface when you open it, and then add bits back where you want them.

Want to have the toolbar at the bottom? No problem. Want to have a huge album art section? No problem. You can basically do anything that you want. Having said that there are two things that I do miss. First is a proper lyrics component that supports the new user interface. And the second thing is a table of album covers just like WMP11 has it.

Sure it’s nothing spectacular, and it doesn’t have super eye-candy, but it currently only takes up 18mb of ram, and that’s with who knows how many GBs of music loaded, and the visualisation component running.

Probably one of the funniest short clip that I’ve seen this month.

For those of you who don’t get it right away, it’s a NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) and Xiao Xiao spoof. Not to mention that it’s terribly politically incorrect, which I love oh so much. I think I’ll watch it again, can’t stop laughing at it.

This pretty much sums it all up, and it’s not that I hate the game, or the previous installments. I just find it average and all the hype makes it worse.

It has been out for a week now, and I thought, well why not? And upgraded to the latest version. Visually, there really isn’t anything new. There’s a lot of changes on the backend though, and many of those changes will no doubt make many bloggers happy.

Native tagging support, plugin update notifications, extended WYSIWYG editor interface, improved JS and many more things. As always there’s quite a lot of bug fixes as well, which I always find strange. Developers keep on fixing hundreds of bugs, and I still haven’t run into any. But that’s a good thing anyway.

I also upgraded some of the plugins, and removed others, so hopefully the blog will be at least a little faster now. Tagging all the old posts might take some time though, as I’m still coming up with a list of tags that I’ll be using, and I’ve got quite a lot of posts to tag as well.

You Kill Me

Just finished watching You Kill Me, and holy cow is it a great movie or what. Really loved it. Shame that it’s probably not going to come to the cinemas here (Austria), or even as DVD. Even greater shame that there will probably be more people who have seen say, Doom movie, or Fantastic Four than this movie.

So what’s it about? It’s about an assassin from the Polish mafia in Buffalo. It tells the story of Frank Falenczyk, a member of this mafia, who has an alcohol problem which starts getting in the way of his work, and he botches several big jobs. So he gets forced to attend AA meetings in San Francisco, and work part time in a funeral parlor.

Don’t want to spoil the rest of the movie. So just going to say that it’s an excellent movie. It’s smart, funny, very dark, but mostly it’s really different and fresh. If you have a chance to watch this, don’t miss it.

Just updated my online portfolio with a new project. And yes, I do work, even though the Portfolio doesn’t really reflect that (one project in 2007? That’s crazy). Well it’s not quite like that, I could rant to no end why I don’t add most of my projects to my portfolio, but I’ll make that a separate post.

SGN Inc. is an Eve Online corporation, as the name already implies, it’s the official SGN corporation. For those of you who don’t know what SGN is, it’s a scifi and gaming community. And Eve Online is a massive multiplayer game set in a scifi setting.

Not much to say about the design and coding process really. Pretty much all of it happened just like it happens with other websites. Right from the start I knew that the site would be something very light, and simple. But with some shiny thrown in as well.

Code wise it’s pretty much standard as well. You have your HTML and CSS for the frontend, and PHP and mod_rewrite for the backend. All together forming, hopefully, a well made website that is easy to navigate and pleasing to look at.
