Six Apart who own LiveJournal have just recently deleted about 500 of its journals (same thing as blogs, just a different name). Now typically I wouldn’t even mention this, but apparently people are running around crazy over this. And while I agree that probably quite a few of the deleted journals were probably actually valid journals, and weren’t against any rules.

But there are also cases where I just think it’s funny and probably for the better of Internet as a whole that they were deleted. So what exactly were they targeting? Journals promoting pedophilia, the sexual abuse of minors, and other illegal activities. Shame that they didn’t target bad taste, at least not directly, but apparently indirectly quite a lot of tasteless stuff did get deleted.

What tasteless stuff am I talking about? Fan-written fiction about Harry Potter. And I don’t even want to imagine what the stories were about if the journals got culled because of “pedophilia, the sexual abuse of minors, and other illegal activities”. They should do these culls more often, would keep the internet a cleaner place.

“they” isn’t terrorists, it just begins to express how utterly stupid I think this is. And I’m not calling them terrorists either, but it’s the same twisted sense of logic which doesn’t work.

Basically a performance artist (yes artists are so well known for their carefully considered politics and reasoning) named Mark McGowan has eaten a Corgi dog apparently to make the point that the British Royal Family mistreats animals and has not been brought to justice over it.

I’d really love to believe this was a case of him making such a strong point by doing such a vile thing - but when he was then quoted as saying - “To me it was, as an art piece, exhilarating,” I seriously have to question whether he was just getting artistic cheap thrills from the exhibitionist show boating.

I’m actually ridiculously pissed off by this, and am hoping it IS a stunt and they didn’t actually cook and eat a fucking dog (they apparently turned it into meatballs). Because I’m sorry but who the fuck demands an end to animal cruelty by eating a dog? It’s a bit like the NSPCC saying stop child abuse or we’ll kick the shit out of some toddlers.

Utterly retarded. And congratulations to Yoko Ono for joining in on something this fucking wretchedly misconceived.

So apparently The Office has been overhyped by virtually everyone in UK for the past several years, and I still hadn’t even seen a single episode. Until last week that is. I haven’t yet seen the US version, or for that matter the german version (Stromberg), so the thoughts here are purely about the UK version.

From what I have heard and been told by other people, it’s one of those things that you either love or hate. And it’s mostly about either liking or not liking Ricky Gervais (plays the boss, David Brent). Because if you don’t like him, you won’t like the whole show, even if Tim (Martin Freeman) and Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) are great characters on their own.

The humour is another thing of course, as a lot of people say that the UK version is very dry and typical English humour. Though personally I find it quite good, and don’t see what’s so dry about it, especially since it is meant to be more of a mockumentary anyway.

Once I have seen the US version as well, I’ll be able to give a proper commentary on the differences, though I suspect that the US version will certainly skip quite a few jokes that the UK version had (hiding the dildo in Brent’s office comes to mind).

Passive-aggressive notes from roommates, neighbours, coworkers and strangers is another great picture blog. As with most pictures blogs it has its own theme, in this case, as the title already suggests it’s passive aggressive notes that have been left back for other people. It’s a relatively new blog, but already has quite a lot of pictures.

So what exactly are passive aggressive notes? They are notes that someone has written in an aggressive manner of someone’s frustration, be it dirty dishes that have been left behind by room mates, or food that has been stolen by co-workers. But these notes aren’t your typical angry notes, no. They are passive, sometimes even polite, and nice sounding.
